‘lecturer’

when the word ‘lecturer’ is mentioned, many of us would probably be picturing an old man in his 50s/60s with the most hideous ties u ever set your eyes on coupled with the fact that he may be half bald or having some sort of belly (big or small).

fast forward to the 21st century, the definition/impression of a lecturer had changed tremendously ranging from their taste of clothes to the youthfulness of their heart.not sure if this is the same in every college but in my college, this fact have proven to be true.so i’m not in a quest to modify the traditional mindset everyone had all the while.

in my college, nearly 80% of my lecturer are either in their 30s or 40s.some are even younger, just a few years older than us, the students.by now, many of you would think how on earth a person as young as them ever landed themselves in the teaching profession.it’s not really that bad if you ask me.i for one definitely do not mind the presence of a younger looking lecturer.the normal doubts on their capability and competence do not in any way threatened the confidence i had in them.truthfully, i prefer the younger lecturer compared to the older ones as the speak the same mind as us.the older ones tend to speak in a zombie-like way which seemed to be the perfect sleeping pill for me.

for an instance, i had the chance of attending the law of trust class conducted by a world renowned lecturer from uni of london.Prof Dr James Penner does not in any way looked like your normal lecturer.he actually had LONG curly lock (imagine kenny g in shorter hair) for someone who is the chief examiner and the author of the textbook i’ll be studying for the next 9 months.any sane person would begin to wonder his ability.but to me, as long as he managed to convey his teachings to his students, even if he’s a gay as said by many of my classmates, it does not bother me.

if the above description is shocking, imagine having a lecturer who comes to class in a tight muscle tee along with a khaki short pants showing off his so called sexy hair legs.some even showed up in their favourite team jersey if it happen to be a match on that day.there goes the normal perception we had on lecturer…

not too long ago, we had a talk by the director of the external LLB programmes.his usage of languages would 100 % scared the hell out of every parents.almost every sentences of his talk would contained the word ’s**t’ or ‘f**k’ or any sort of foul languages.it makes you wonder if that’s the way he conduct his class.it’s the same case for my lecturer although their choice of words are far more milder than the guy from london.at least we MALAYSIAN know when is the appropriate times to use it.

at the end of the day, i’m looking forward to every class as this new breed of lecturers continue to ‘entertain’ me with their actions.expect the unexpected to be precise!
