I received this over the email, from Lai Ying.
Upon seeing this symbol, I was stumped for a minute. What on earth is this?
According to her, this symbol is called Mandala and served as a protection from negative electromagnetic energy, harm and danger. Remind me of a talisman or a religious symbol.
Out of curiosity, I google-ed and this is what I found.
The word “mandala” is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Loosely translated to mean “circle,” a mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself–a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.
Describing both material and non-material realities, the mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community.
One interesting fact is that Mandala is available in all kind of colour, size and pattern. Different Mandala symbolises different purpose, culture and expression. Look closely, it can be found anywhere, in architecture, painting and etc. Even the Taoist symbol of yin yang take after the circle from of a Mandala.
