8th day of CNY marked the celebration of CNY by the Hokkien. To us, ‘pai tee gong’ is even more important than the 1st day of CNY.

Coincidentally, this year, Valentine’s Day also fall on the same day.

So far, everything is great. 7 more days for me to eat and eat without feeling guilty.

Yesterday night was the FIRST time I did not have a reunion dinner with my family. Feel kinda strange but….

I witnessed the celebration up in Genting. Amazed at the amount of firecrackers they had.

Anyway, couldn’t get much sleep as the sound of firecrackers echoing through the night. By the time I fall asleep, it’s almost dawn. So when my mum tried to wake me up an hour ago, I feel like shouting at her. Then I remembered, it’s Chinese New Year. Dad gonna get mad if we are not prepared. He has this habit of showing up early for any functions, events or family gatherings.

Before vanishing to my hometown, I’m wishing all my reader a very Happy Chinese New Year.

Gong Xi Fa Chai

May the year of rat bring us loads of prosperity (especially for me).

Gonna catch some sleep during the 3 hours journey back to Yong Peng.

Chinese New Year is marvelous with good food and ‘ang pau’. And as always, I turned into a bak kwa (dried slice meat) addict for the last few days. This is the time where I can eat as much as I wish, having it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Called me psycho if you want, all I cared right now is my beloved bak kwa My mum thinks that ‘bak kwa’ is no good, too fattening and oily. She only allowed us to have it during Chinese New Year. Since I was deprived of this delicacy throughout the year, I go frenzy and indulged on it 24/7.

I swear my waistline expanded due to that. Don’t ever dare to look at the weight machine, I’m pretty sure it will freak me out. Turning into a pig soon in the year of Fire Pig…

But what the heck, Chinese New Year comes only once a year, I’m going to eat all I want. Diet and exercise can wait. 

I’m heading down south for a few days in conjuction with CNY (called it balik kampung if you want)

A very Happy Chinese New Year to everyone. Hope the year of fire Boar brings us loads of prosperity, happiness and not forgetting luck.

Lately, I get touched easily over small small things such as lovely SMS, acts and words spoken. My heart would melt everytime those things happened. Before this, I hardly become emotional. Why? Because it’s just not me. I refused to let my feelings conquer my rational mind.

The surprise touching moment happened today. I received a CNY card from Carmen. Of our 14 years of friendship, we never gave each other CNY card. It’s often implied and understood between us.

Inside the card, it was sccribbled with words not short CNY wishes but long message. It looked more like a letter than a card. I was surprised because the Carmen I knew was not fond of writing. Reading the card transport me back to all the great times we had together.

Without her, I may not be the person I am today. Her existence shaped and left a tremendous mark in my life. Just like a scar but a good one though.

Not forgetting those who made an impact in my life. Each and everyone of you had enriched my life and has in many ways touched my heart. No words could described my gratefulness in having all of you in my life.

My love is in the air and it’s for all of you!

Called it the Chinese New Year spirit or the need to attract the “Prosperity God” to the house because my house looked BRIGHT red this year.

As long as I can remember, my dad never failed to decorate the house with tanglung and ong lai (pineapple) each time the new year arrive. It’s one of the tradition he still held on to despite the evolution of modern Chinese New Year. In fact, it’s on its way to extinction especially in KL where young people are too busy with work and life.

However, this year, I think my dad went overboard with the decoration. He choose to add in more tanglung (he bought 8 as the number symbolize prosperity in chinese) and bought bigger ong lai. His reason : our house looked big so the tanglung and ong lai need to be big too in order to complement with each other.

*aduh*

Our house is the only one in the neighbourhood with the most and biggest decoration for CNY.I  doubt any other house can beat my dad. My guess is if they start doing so, my dad will buy MORE next year…
